The National Olympic Committee of Laos and Ministry of Education and Sports have had an opportunity to hold a Baton Run Event to support the 29th SEA Games, to be held in Kuala Lumpur in 2017.

The baton run was held in Vientiane Capital on March 18 in presence of the Minister of Education and Sports of Laos, Mrs Sengduean Larchanthaboun, and the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Malaysia, Datuk M. Saravanan.

The “Rising Together” Baton Run is an important milestone in the history of the SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games.

The run also symbolizes the celebration of unity and shared values of the Southeast Asian nations under the official theme of KL2017 which is “Bangkit Bersama” or “Rising Together”.  “First of all, congratulations to Malaysia to be the host country of the 29th SEA Games and all parties concerned for your kind cooperation and support to organize the Baton Run Events today,” said Mrs Sengduean.

The Baton Run in Vientiane is the 3rd event as scheduled among the ASEAN member countries. Lao PDR is happy to have contributed to this event as an ASEAN Member and the South East Asian Federation member (SEAGF), besides its participation in each SEA Games event.

This Baton Run not only supports the 29th SEA Games that Malaysia will be hosting, it also raises among Lao people about when the 29th SEA Games will take place, from 19-31 August 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This activity also strengthens the relationship among ASEAN people for better understanding and close cooperation. It also encourage athletes and sport leaders to prepare well for the 29th SEA Games.

The Baton Run also supports cultural change, drawing tourists from other ASEAN countries, which will be an initial step to open AEC with the slogan of “Rising together”.

Lao PDR is the third stop of the “Rising Together” Baton Run series after Bandar Seri Begawan and Manila. “We continue the 3rd leg of Kuala Lumpur or KL 2017 ‘Rising Together’ Baton Run after Brunei Darussalam and the Philippines,” said the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Malaysia, Datuk M. Saravanan.Back in Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian Organizing Committee (MASOC) of KL2017 is working hard to ensure an enjoyable experience for everyone. The “Rising Together” Baton Run should provide a glimpse of this, and help spread the vibes of the Games to all participating countries.
